Definitely not! At Atlanta Vision Cataract & Laser Center Center we treat many patients with LASIK surgery who are 40 and well above. We’ve treated patients with otherwise healthy eyes and no signs of cataracts who were in their 60’s. During your 40’s most people develop presbyopia, a condition where your near vision begins to change and it becomes hard to read small print. Reading glasses usually are needed. You can’t escape presbyopia, even if you’ve never had a vision problem before. Even people who are nearsighted will notice that their near vision blurs when they wear their usual eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct distance vision. Unfortunately, this condition worsens as you age up to around 65. However, it’s really not a need for concern as you can just get stronger reading glasses. Presbyopia is just a natural condition that occurs in everyone’s eyes.
There are a couple of options for those over 40:
LASIK

Another option is monovision. Many baby boomers are increasingly opting for this procedure that compensates for near vision, or presbyopia.
